Consultation on Bury’s Home to School Transport Policy
by timpickstone on September 12, 2012
Bury Council is consulting on proposed revisions to the Home to School Transport Policy.
The revised policy, if implemented, would apply with effect from 1 September 2013. It is proposed to remove the discretionary provision of free transport to pupils attending a particular school on the grounds of their or their parents’ religion or belief, where there is a nearer qualifying school. Under the new proposal, children from low income families and those that live more than 3 miles from their nearest available school will continue to be eligible for a free home to school travel pass.
The biggest effect here is that children who are NOT from low income families, who currently receive a pass to travel to St Monicas, Bury Church or King David schools, will no longer have a pass from September 2013.
The consultation document, together with further background information and a consultation response form, is available online at: www.bury.gov.uk/travelpass, or by contacting the School & College Transport Team on the details below.
Please take time to read the consultation document and let us know your views. Responses should be sent to the School & College Transport Team, Athenaeum House, Market Street, Bury, BL9 0BN, telephone 0161 253 6968 or e-mail travelpass@bury.gov.uk, no later than 9 November 2012.
