The local business community in Prestwich is asking for our support to help fight a proposal to cut the business support and town centres manager role at the Council.
A review of ‘Destination Management’ services is to reduce 5 full time jobs to 1 full time and 1 part time.
Our local businesses are concerned that they will lost the support of the only post which currently helps the business community in the towns outside of Bury itself (Prestwich, Whitefield, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom etc). In recent years there has been some significant success in developing the business life in the smaller towns with new and improved events like the Ramsbottom Chocolate Festival and Whitefield Halloween Festival – all brought about through the post that is being abolished.
Businesses fear that with this cut will mean many of the business groups in the borough are unlikely to survive and even if they do it is unlikely that there will be any events like these in the townships going forward.
How you can help:
Attend the consultation event
The event will take place on 26 November at the Elizabethan Suite, Bury Town Hall, 6pm-8pm and will include a detailed presentation on the proposals; opportunities for you to have your say in focus groups and undertake a budget priorities exercise, which will help us shape the final proposals for this work area for the council. If you would like to attend the event please reply to [email protected] with ‘attend’ in the subject line, confirming the names and numbers of delegates. Please confirm your attendance by 9am on 23 November.
Take part online or get in touch
If you are unable to attend the event you can still get involved and have your say online by completing our online questionnaire before 30 November 2012. You can access the questionnaire and summary information about the proposals here: http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=8088 and click on the link for the Survey Monkey questionnaire.
