Young people in Bury have made a mark on volunteering by becoming regional winners in the unite category of the vinspired National Awards 2009.
This award celebrates great examples of volunteers engaged in team activity.
As regional winners they have been invited to attend an awards ceremony at indig02 in London on November 26.
vinvolved Bury’s Youth Action Team proved to be a winning formula due to their team work, commitment and contribution as youth volunteer ambassadors in Bury.
Some of their achievements include designing a new website and promotional material, organising an annual celebration event of young volunteers, organising fundraising events for local charities and conducting a survey of young people in Bury discover what types of volunteering activities they would like to be offered.
Vicky Sullivan, youth volunteer adviser for vinvolved team Bury, said: “We are very pleased that the efforts of Bury’s Youth Action Team have been recognised with this regional win. It has been a real pleasure to see both team and individuals develop.â€
Chloe Drury, one of the members from the Bury Youth Action Team, commented: “I’m happy that we are regional winners and that volunteers are getting recognised for the good work they have been doing, not just the ones in Bury but all over the country.”
Chloe also helped to judge some of the entrants from other counties, and was impressed at all the work volunteers have been doing.
Vicky added: “vinvolved Bury would like to say a massive thank you to all those people who took the time to nominate a young volunteer for a National Award. In doing so, you have helped us to recognise exceptional individuals who have made a big difference to other people or the environment.â€
