Prestwich Library Opening hours Slashed

by prestwichfocus on 9 January, 2018

Prestwich Library had its opening times slashed from the start of 2018.

The new opening times are:

From May 2018 the Library will be completely closed on Saturdays.

(For reference the times last year were
Monday ➔ 9.30am to 7.30pm
Tuesday ➔ 9.30am to 5.30pm
Wednesday ➔ 9.30am to 1.00pm
Thursday ➔ 9.30am to 7.30pm
Friday ➔ 9.30am to 5.30pm
Saturday ➔ 9.30am to 1.00pm
Sunday ➔ 10.00am to 1.00pm) (47)

Last year the Council undertook a long review of Libraries which meant that 10 out of 14 of Bury’s Libraries were closed at the start of this year. The only libraries to remain open are Ramsbottom, Bury, Radcliffe and Prestwich.

We feel let down by this significant reduction in opening hours. When the closures were proposed, we were told that it would make the remaining four libraries viable going forwards, but this is almost a 40% reduction in opening hours (47 hours to 29.5 a week)

Now all raw libraries are opening later, closing earlier not opening at all on Mondays. Saturday openings in Prestwich are to end in the Spring. There is only going to be two times a week when a working family could visit a library together (Thursday night and Sunday morning).

Let us know what you think or if you have been affected by the changes.

Again, Bury have behaved disgracefully in their review of library hours.

Why is the libary open on Sunday at all. Its should open Monday to Saturday. to enable everyone use of this facility.

Last Tuesday I went down to Prestwich library, and there was a very long queue waiting to get in at 0930. If there is a need for early opening, why is it not given.
