A56 Roadworks Update

by prestwichfocus on 19 March, 2018

In response to the many residents who ask when the A56 roadworks will be finished, we’ve had this update from the Council: “Unfortunately as a result of the recent drop in temperatures, particularly during the evening hours (when works were programmed to minimise disruption) the surfacing works could not be undertaken. This will likely delay completion so that (weather permitting) the works will be completed in April. Some other minor works and snagging could continue beyond April, however, the main works should be fully complete.”

Traffic congestion in Prestwich is horrendous. Nursery Rd is becoming a rat run between Bury Old Road and Bury New Rd with traffic regularly backing up from Fairfax Rd all the way back up Nursery Rd to Bury Old Rd. Reducing the two lanes to one through the village also impacts on this. Councillors need to take a careful look at the impact of their decisions on the people who live in this area!!

Absolutely Karen! There are huge problems across wide areas of Prestwich – probably Nursery Road and Heywood Road being the worst affected in the changes to Bury New Road.

As you know your local councillors here in Holyrood Ward have been completely opposed to the changes to Bury New Road, and are lobbying the Council to take action on the mess that has now been created.
