Don’t forget your Photo ID on Thursday!
Please remember, that for the first time in a General Election, voters will need to show photographic ID to vote at polling stations on 4 July 2024.

Accepted forms of ID include a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK, EEA or Commonwealth drivers’ licence; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo. The full list of acceptable IDs are here

Polling stations are open on Thursday, 4 July 2024 7am to 10pm.You do not need to take your your polling card to vote.

If you have a postal vote that you have yet returned, you can take this down to your local polling station on Thursday. Take the completed and sealed envelope. You will be asked to fill in a form as you hand in the envelope at the polling station, but you do not need photo ID.

The Liberal Democrat candidate in the General Election is Brian Wernham. Brian is the councillor for Stanwix ward and lives in the middle of Stanwix.

For more information, please contact Hayley Nugent via email Hayley.Nugent@ncic.nhs.uk

Council Questions coming up
We’ve tabled quite a few written questions at the next full meeting of Cumberland Council. There are two which might be of interest to residents and perhaps you can help me with some information. The first is around pothole repairs, and specifically asking how often the Council has to come back (within six months) to re-attend a pot hole repair that has not worked. Anecdotally people are telling me that the new way of fixing potholes is not working, and we’re keen highlight this to the Council if it is what is happening.

Secondly, I’m asking a question about the switch off of the copper wire phone system in 2025. Hopefully this won’t affect most people, but it could well affect two groups of people – people in very rural areas with poor mobile signal (in the event of a sustained power cut meaning there is no phone communications), and people who use any non-digital systems that rely on a phone line (an example is an emergency call button used by some elderly people.) If you have concerns about this please let me know and I can incpororate your concerns into the question.
